Introduction Top

1. What is the Canterbury Episcopal School Parents' Organization?

The parents' organization is formed to serve the best interests of Canterbury by supporting the school's mission, programs, and activities. The parents' organization will build positive school spirit, nurture communication, help with classroom, administrative, social, and athletic needs on a volunteer basis, and raise funds in conjunction with school-wide development policies and programs.

2. How do I become a member of the parents' organization?

All parents and guardians of the children attending The Canterbury Episcopal School are members. There are no dues to be paid, no monthly meetings to attend, and no minimum number of hours to be volunteered. However, it is hoped that everyone will be active members, and be willing to help when called.

3. What are some of the events for which the parents' organization is responsible ?

The parents' organization helps support and coordinates many events throughout the year. Some examples: the uniform swaps, Secret Santa program, drivers for field trips and community service, athletic concessions and games, visual and performing arts programs, the Annual Gala, SCRIP, and many other volunteer opportunities that arise during the year.

4. How does the parents' organization communicate its needs to the parents?

Events and volunteer opportunities will be posted on the Canterbury web site.

There will also be information sent home with your student periodically, begging phone calls, and e-mail messages. The lines of communication flow both ways and we welcome your comments, support, offers to volunteer and even complaints (it can only help us to improve).

An e-mail distribution regarding upcoming events will be sent periodically by your Parents' Organization leaders. If you would like to be included in this distribution please e-mail your contact information to Rhonda at rhondaeverett@swbell.net.

Gala co-chairs Rhonda Everett and Sherice Brown made some basic event decisions early in the planning stages.  First, the event would be off-site at the Adam’s Mark Hotel.  It proved to be a perfect backdrop for the gala theme “Lights, Camera…CANTERBURY!”

The evening of March 8th began with Rev. Dick Cadigan presenting a bouquet of roses to our gala co-chairs Rhonda Everett and Sherice Brown.  Following the Invocation Rev. Cadigan made Dale Hansen an Honorary Cougar by presenting a special jacket and certificate.  We appreciate his past and present support of our school.

Co-emcees Tim Brown, Heisman Trophy winner and Dale Hansen, WFAA Sports entertained the 300+ guests and raised over $37,000 in the live auction alone!  Tabulations are still being made for silent auction.

The event was simply spectacular drawing Canterbury’s living saint, Mrs. Madelyn Chafin as one of two major underwriters.  Citizen’s National Bank in Waxahachie was our second major underwriter.  Live music was performed during dinner by The Joseph Vincelli Group.

A children’s gala for Canterbury children in grades K-8 was also hosted at the Adam’s Mark Hotel with entertainment by Magic Mike.

Winner of the raffle for trip for two to Hollywood valued at $8,000 was our very own Head of School Rev. Dick Cadigan.  Winner of $1,000 shopping at Northpark were Angela and Dr. Juan Arias.

Hollywood memorabilia items were made available in the silent auction along with 200+ items that included jewelry, books, cookware, photography service, and the ever popular sports memorabilia among other items.

Giving tree provided guests the opportunity to purchase items for use in the classroom.

Centerpieces were designed by Canterbury parent Jane Mills Pearle of Branded Spaces/Living Places and donated by Dr. and Mrs. Juan Arias, Christie Hamric, Beth Wright, and an anonymous CES supporter.

Board members and parents purchased tickets for every teacher and staff person.

Sincere thanks to our donors, staff, and each parent that played their part in the success of this grand affair.  A special thanks to Eric Pearle, M & M Advertising, Today Newspapers, neighborsgo.com, and Oak Cliff Tribune for providing promotional support.

Thank you Daphne Brown, Editor Today Newspapers (DeSoto) and Loyd Brumfield, Editor neighborsgo.com Best Southwest edition for serving as our media guests for the evening.

Many thanks to gala committee leadership for Data entry/tickets – Erika Hemphill, Graphic design - Amy Painter, Solicitation of underwriting and live auction items Michelle Burks, Sherice Brown, Rhonda Everett, Sheri Mathis, Canterbury parents, and Melba Siebel, Decorations - Sherice Brown, Live Auction - Stephanie Burchell, Audio Visual & Computer set-up Lloyd Everett and Beth Sauer, Silent Auction - Annie Barrick, Giving Tree - Kellie Fancher, Mailing - Linda Moore, Logistics – Art Gilchrist and maintenance staff, Wrap-up detail – Rhonda Everett, Erika Hemphill, and Laura Mahaley.

Lastly we wish to thank the Adam’s Mark Hotel for being such a gracious host.
